A year has passed since the social safety and integrity reporting point was established. During that period, 69 reports were received. According to the Executive Board, the reporting centre “clearly meets a need”.

On 1 October 2025, the UvA introduced the social safety and integrity reporting point, a central point of contact where students, staff and PhD candidates can report issues such as inappropriate behaviour or breaches of integrity. During the first year that the reporting centre has been operational, 69 reports have been received. Earlier this year, the Executive Board concluded in an interim evaluation that, during the first six months after its establishment, the reporting centre “clearly meets a need and is being used more than anticipated”.

The majority of those making reports were referred to a confidential adviser

Ombuds Officer’s report

A full overview of how the reporting centre has functioned during its first year is not yet available, but the Ombuds Officer’s report for 2025 does show what types of reports were received during the first three months after its establishment, providing an indication of how the reporting centre is being used.

The report shows that the categories most frequently selected by those making reports in the first few months were “inappropriate behaviour”, “patterns of social unsafety” and “suspected breach of integrity”. Most reports came from the Faculty of Humanities (FGw), and the majority of those making reports were referred by the reporting centre to a confidential adviser.

Minutes from the Executive Board show that its own evaluation of the reporting centre identified areas of concern “around routing, division of responsibilities and the capacity required”. However, according to a spokesperson, exactly what needs to be done on these points is still “work in progress”. In November, the UvA will once again assess how students and staff experience the reporting system.
