From August, the UvA will begin construction of a new entrance for the ABC building on the Roeterseiland Campus. The additional entrance on Valckenierstraat is intended to improve flow, shorten walking routes, and make the building more accessible for students, staff, and visitors.
The ABC building will get a new entrance. This will be an additional entrance, complementing the main entrance on Nieuwe Achtergracht and the bicycle entrance on Roetersstraat. The new entrance will be located next to the loading area on Valckenierstraat.
According to the university, the extra entrance should make it easier and faster to enter and exit the building. “This will allow students, staff and visitors, for example, to move more easily from REC V and REC JK to the main building and the bicycle basement,” the UvA writes. The new entrance will also benefit students and staff arriving at the tram stop on Sarphatistraat, who will no longer have to detour via CREA or Roetersstraat.
Permit
The UvA reports that the municipality of Amsterdam has already granted the permit for this entrance, allowing the university to proceed with preparations for the works.
It is not yet known when the new entrance will be ready.
