Intreeweek introduces shorter, cheaper version: IntreeLite
For those who find the regular Intreeweek too long, too intense or simply too expensive, there is now IntreeLite: a cheaper, shorter version of Intreeweek. After a pilot was trialled within the Faculty of Humanities last year, IntreeLite is now being rolled out across the UvA for the first time.
Although Intreeweek – which starts next Monday – is embraced by a large group of first-year students every summer as a way to get to know the university and their future fellow students, there is also a group for whom five days packed with activities is simply a bit too much. To cater to this group, this year, the organisation of Intreeweek is introducing IntreeLite: a shorter, cheaper version of the regular week.
While the full Intreeweek consists of five days, students who have signed up for IntreeLite will only take part in the activities scheduled for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. A pilot was already trialled within the Faculty of Humanities last year, but this is the first time the shortened introduction week is being offered as a fully open programme option. So far, more than 500 students have signed up for IntreeLite, compared with around 3,500 students taking part in the full week.
According to the organisation of Intreeweek, there are several reasons why students choose IntreeLite. Some participants, for example, are unable to find somewhere to stay for the full five days, while others simply find the full week too intense or too expensive. A ticket for the regular Intreeweek costs 110 euros (early bird) or 128 euros (late bird). At 70 euros, a ticket for IntreeLite is therefore a more affordable option.
Get Ready
Within the IntreeLite programme, students also have the option of signing up as a Get Ready participant. This option is intended for students who, for example because they are neurodivergent or first-generation students, would benefit from some additional support and attention before starting their degree. Get Ready participants are placed in small groups with their own mentor, who takes extra time throughout the week to answer questions about the UvA and help create a safe environment. Students who sign up for this programme are also automatically invited by the UvA to a number of support sessions during the first 100 days of their studies.
