IIS Director Lucy Wenting, project manager Robin van Schijndel, Diversity Officer Siri Boe-Lillegraven, and security coordinator Ton Prosec received a UvA Erepenning on Friday. The distinction was awarded in recognition of their “exceptional commitment and contributions to the university”.

“A remarkable group of UvA staff members who have each made an impact across the university in their own way.” That is how departing rector magnificus Peter-Paul Verbeek described the four recipients of the UvA’s Erepenning, the university’s own award of recognition. “By awarding this distinction, we want to express our gratitude for their tireless dedication to the UvA.”

The UvA annually awards honorary medals to individuals who have delivered outstanding achievements of particular value to the university or whose contributions have significantly benefited the institution. While the award often goes to university employees, this is not a requirement.

Ton Prosec received the honorary medal in part for his “crucial role in the security arrangements for Amalia, Princess of Orange”

This year, one of the recipients was Ton Prosec, UvA/HvA Security Coordinator. He received the honorary medal in part for his “crucial role in the security arrangements for Catharina-Amalia, Princess of Orange” during her time as a student at the UvA. “Thanks to his careful and discreet approach, she was able to participate in university life in a safe manner.”

Robin van Schijndel, senior project manager and housing policy adviser, also received the distinction. According to the university, he was “of invaluable importance to the development of the new University Library on Vendelstraat.”

The medal was also presented to Lucy Wenting, director of the Institute for Interdisciplinary Studies (IIS), and Siri Boe-Lillegraven, associate professor of Strategy and Diversity Officer at the Faculty of Economics and Business. Wenting was recognised for her “exceptional and long-standing commitment to educational innovation and interdisciplinary education.” Boe-Lillegraven was honoured for her efforts to promote diversity, inclusion, and social safety within the university.
