In Amsterdam, you can finally be your unique self. But are you really that special? The city seems to consist mainly of, at most, four different Amsterdam students. Today: The born-and-raised Amsterdammer.

Wears:

Black jumper (vintage), loose-fitting beige trousers (vintage), half-sleeved white shirt (Uniqlo-vintage), Chelsea boots (vintage), moustache (vintage), necklace (vintage?).

Goes to:

Jaxie (Ajax), De Schietclub, cinema restaurant FC Hyena, basically anything in Amsterdam-North that still combines a bit of that cultural creative space with an ambience DJ/graphic novelwriter in a Bonne Suits jacket with plant-based shared dining in a corrugated iron shed and minimal-afrobeat-to-7am-not-see-but-be-seen-while-you-vape-your-life-away-telling-about-your-new-project-for-a-pub-that-you-would-never-visit-but-could-rescue-Damsko-from-internationals-clubbing.

Says:

  • ‘I’m on the list. Buddy of mine is a lighting and engineering artist here/manages the mental safe space/has sex with a girl who promotes the club in her stories/knows more drum & bass songs than cities outside Amsterdam/is thinking of starting a podcast with his friends.’
  • ‘My study is so extremely important, man, but you also need to make sure your uni-knowledge is on the same emotional level as your anxious attachment style.’
  • ‘They can’t let Amsterdam-North yuppify, dude. Is the only thing that still vibes authentically in Dammie.’ (Lives in a 60m2 studio in Oost of his divorced, high educated parents, who have paid for his decade of Waldorf education, private school Luzac, three years of pre-college Creative Business and just as many unfinished UvA propaedeuses with long-study fines).
