The office of the Amsterdam student union ASVA Student Union on the Roeterseiland Campus was vandalised over the weekend. A break-in, which appears to have specifically targeted the union, caused significant damage.

The windows of two doors were completely smashed, and the glass partition at the student service desk was left in pieces. The office of the Asva Student Union, located on the first floor of the Crea building on the Roeterseiland Campus, was vandalised over the weekend. Damage was also caused to the union’s boardroom.

“It appears that this break-in was specifically targeted at us,” said Sahand Mozdbar, chair of the Asva Student Union, on Monday. Other offices in the Crea building were left untouched. “There was also urine on the wall, and nothing of financial value was taken. That strongly suggests something closer to vandalism and intimidation than ordinary theft.”

Unclear
The Amsterdam Police has confirmed that the break-in took place in the early hours of Sunday morning. The incident was reported at approximately 4:50 a.m. According to a police spokesperson, the perpetrator or perpetrators entered through the rear entrance of Crea, which was closed at the time. So far, no information has been released about the identity of the suspect or suspects, nor about the motive behind the attack.

The Amsterdam student union says it is shocked by the incident and considers to file a police report. Due to the damage, the union’s student service desk will remain closed throughout the day.

Update 23 June, 13:30 – The Asva has announced that it will file a police report regarding the incident. “We were shocked, but we will absolutely not be thrown off course,” said Mozdbar. “This act strikes at our heart, but not at our determination. We are here for students, and we will continue to stand up for their rights.”
