UvA department manager and former Bachelor contestant Maud Sellis (33) chooses euthanasia

Folia spoke to her in March about her participation in the television programme The Bachelor. Sellis talked about the breast cancer she previously had. “A few months after I was declared cured, the television show came my way. Normally I would have said ‘no’, but in the end I thought: why not? Life is short.”
 
This year the breast cancer came back. In an interview with magazine Linda, she talks about the metastases and that she is no longer curable. “Because you get sick a first time, you are much more concerned about death. It made me think more: if something happens now, will I be satisfied with the life I have led? I have always said a resounding ‘yes’ to that.”
 
Her friends and family support her wish to choose her own date of death. “When I am no longer here later, I hope they can finally give me a beautiful place in their hearts and minds. That, like me, they can find peace and tranquillity in it.”
