As of this week, the UvA Supervisory Board once again consists of five members. Professor of Educational Sciences Edith Hooge has joined the Board, while lawyer Gerard Mols has been reappointed.
Until now, the board had four members and, according to the law, may consist of “no more than” five members. With the new composition, the board has now reached its maximum number of members. In addition to Hooge and Mols, the board consists of Marise Voskens (chair), Rob Becker and Pauline Meurs. Hooge was appointed on the recommendation of the UvA’s representative bodies. She enjoys, as it is called, “the special trust of the representative bodies” and takes over the role from Mols, who has held this position for more than four years.
Expertise
Breanndán Ó Nualláin, chair of the UvA’s Central Works Council, responded enthusiastically to Hooge’s appointment on behalf of the entire employee participation body. “Edith Hooge not only has extensive expertise in higher education governance and knowledge of developments in research and education, but is also accessible, and we are confident that she will be able to fulfil the role of Supervisory Board member with special confidence.”
Edith Hooge (50) obtained her PhD in educational sciences at the UvA. She is currently professor of Boards and Governance in Education at Tias, a business school affiliated with Tilburg University and Eindhoven University of Technology, and conducts research into supervision, governance and accountability in education and other non-profit sectors. She is also a member of the Supervisory Board of Utrecht University of Applied Sciences.
Gerard Mols (66) studied law in Utrecht, where he also obtained his PhD. In 1986, he became professor of criminal law at Maastricht University, where he later became dean and rector magnificus. He is now back as professor in Maastricht and chair of the Supervisory Board of Zuyd University of Applied Sciences. Mols has been a member of the Supervisory Board of the University of Amsterdam since 2013.
Supervision
The Supervisory Board independently supervises the university’s management, appoints the members of the Executive Board and advises the board where necessary. Hooge and Mols have been appointed for a term of four years.
