The motion submitted by GroenLinks and D66 last week for a tuition-free academic year has been passed. MBO, HBO and university students who have suffered study delay due to the corona pandemic will be able to study for an additional year without paying tuition.

Members of the House of Representatives argued that more attention must be paid to the plight of young people severely affected by the pandemic. ‘Attending’ lectures online for months, many students complain about mental health problems due to a lack of social contact. The outgoing education ministers Arie Slob (ChristenUnie) and Ingrid van Engelshoven (D66) are in discussions with educational institutions for a nation-wide programme for education after corona. ‘There should be no taboos, not even a year of study delay,’ said outgoing prime minister Rutte to the House of Representatives.
