UvA looks into building a new lecture hall on Roeterseiland

This month the UvA will make a decision whether or not to build a new lecture hall on the Roeterseiland Campus. Economy & Business and Law programmes need more space for lectures.

Two faculties, Economy & Business (FEB) and Law (FdR) have alerted the university to the fact they need more space for lectures. They are currently renting spaces outside the university (in September some FEB lectures were held in the Carré Theatre). ‘The situation is far from ideal for students and professors,’ says Hans den Boer of the housing department. ‘And it costs the UvA 150.000 euros a year.’

Location unknown
Den Boer is part of the feasibility study looking into a new lecture hall and says that a good option would be to build one that can be divided into smaller rooms. According to Den Boer, the location of the new lecture hall is still unknown. An existing building on the Roeterseiland campus is, he says, a possibility, but the university is also exploring the options of building a new one.

According to Den Boer, the Board of the University wants to take the decision still this year or by the beginning of January.
