This year the UvA has slightly improved its position in the Times Higher Education Ranking (THE) coming in four places higher than in 2016. At 59th, the UvA holds the highest position of all Dutch universities.

All thirteen Dutch universities are now positioned in the top 200 with Delft University of Technology and Wageningen University following up the UvA as highest ranked at place 63 and 64 respectively. Top of the line is, as usual, University of Oxford followed by Cambridge. The California Institute of Technology and Stanford share the third position.

The annual Times Higher Education World University Ranking, the official title of the academic ranking of the British magazine THE, ranks universities according to their reputation of excellence in certain academic fields, asking scientists from all over the world which universities they believe to be leaders in their specific field of competence (you can read more about their method here).Together with the Shanghai Ranking and the QS Ranking, the THE Ranking is the most influential.
