ACE start up centre ceases to exist

The collective Amsterdam Centre for Entrepreneurship (ACE) will cease to exist. All contributing and participating educational institutes have found replacements for this programme or deem the centre no longer necessary.

The University of Amsterdam (UvA) and the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (HvA) were among the contributing and participating companies. ACE’s principal Erik Boer, says the contract for the collaboration, with the Free University (VU) and the Amsterdam University of Applied sciences for the arts as the remaining two collaborating institutes, ended on 31 December last year. ‘After our evaluation we concluded that we have achieved a lot and that further collaboration in its current form wouldn’t be as fruitful,’ says Boer.

As a new incentive, the UvA has commenced a start up village located on the Science Park campus: a ‘village’ consisting of thirty shipping containers in which students can learn the ins and outs of entrepreneurship.

The four institutes will continue to work together on Innovation Exchange Amsterdam (IXA), the institute for valorisation. This institute not only aims to stimulate entrepreneurship, but also innovation.
