Activist Party UvA and 020 will both compete for a seat on the Central Student Council in the student council elections beginning 31 May. A total of fourteen parties from the various faculties will participate.

One of the new parties to run in this year’s student elections is the Activist Party UvA. The party will take part in both the central and faculty elections. The leader of this party is Philosophy student Luana Lenz. In the past year, she has drawn a lot of publicity to issues related to social safety, in particular to the case of the transgressive behaviour of a lecturer in the Master Conservation & Restoration. Speaking to Folia, she described the UvA's response as ‘downright barbaric’.

Tammie Schoots

A second Philosophy student, Tammie Schoots, is also on the list of the Activist Party UvA. Schoots was party leader and the only member of the Anti-corona Party, fighting against the consequences of the UvA’s corona policy for students. She also campaigned against the election system itself, believing it both unfair and immoral when the other participating parties organised giveaways and received sponsorship. Schoots objected to the result at the central electoral committee. Her complaint was dismissed and she appealed. She eventually withdrew, but it took months for the election results to be finalised.

020 stands for ‘progressive pragmatism and innovative and inclusive solutions for everyone’

020

Party 020 is the new name of 020Together, a party made up predominantly of international students. It is participating for the first time in the direct election for the Central Student Council.

On LinkedIn, the party’s slogan is ‘See the Change’. One of the party's candidates is PPLE student Thomas Riedlsperger. He says on LinkedIn that the party stands for ‘progressive pragmatism and innovative and inclusive solutions for everyone’.

Preferred voice

For both student councils of the Faculty of Medicine, there are as many candidates as there are seats to be awarded, so each candidate will automatically be appointed. Only one party is participating from the Faculty Acta: the Kies Acta Party. It has drawn up eight candidates for seven seats, so it is worthwhile to vote, even if only to cast a preferential vote. The other parties participating in the faculty elections are the usual suspects: UvASociaal, List Sefa, De Vrije Student, TOF, Lief, Slaafs and OpRecht.
