Higher education must again switch to online education. The government announced it this Saturday at a press conference on the corona crisis. At least until January 9, there will be no on-campus education in the Netherlands.

For the UvA, this will not cause major problems since there was no educations scheduled up to January 9, only exams. According to Universities of the Netherlands, the umbrella organization of universities, these will not be affected by the lockdown and can continue as scheduled.

The UvA has since announced that study places and libraries will remain open and available. Also, employees who cannot work at home can come to campus in consultation with their supervisors.

The dies natalis celebration on January 10, in honor of 390th anniversary of the UvA, will be held entirely online. The event is not open to the public.

The administration has decided to institute a lockdown out of concern over the omicron variant of the coronavirus. Scientists assume that it is much more contagious than the delta variant that is currently still dominant in the Netherlands.
