At least for the rest of the week, there will be no lectures in the J/K building of the Roeterseiland Campus. The UvA decided to do so after research showed that the air quality 'fluctuated'. Therefore it is not possible to determin how many students can be in the rooms safely.
All lectures that were scheduled in REC-J/K will be replaced by online teaching. If that is not possible studies will look for alternatives. In REC-J/K, lectures are given by the faculties of Social and Behavioural Sciences, Law, and Economics & Business Administration. OnCampus, an organization wicht prepares foreign students for a study at the UvA through preparatory years, also uses the building for education.
It is the first time since the corona crisis that the university has decided to close an entire building for education because of the air quality. Monday, the building was already closed, after the entire weekend was spent working to get the ventilation system up to standard.
Ventilation is one of the pillars of the anti-covid policy and because there were doubts about ventilation in the building, the university took this far-reaching decision.
