The General Practitioners Practice UvA, the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences (FMG) and several other parties have joined forces to open Health Centre Roeterseiland in REC-L. It will be open to UvA students and staff before summer 2021.
The health centre will be opened in the former lab of the FMG, says director Peter Vonk of the General Practitioners Practice, and will house branches of the General Practitioners Practice, the Studentist dental Practice and the Mentaal Beter psychologist's practice. PsyPoly, the treatment centre of the UvA Clinical Psychology programme, will also be present; as will physiotherapists from the University Sports Centre.
According to Vonk, the new health centre is a ‘long-cherished wish’. ‘Our current location on the Oude Turfmarkt is quite small. When we found out REC-L was suddenly empty because the FMG decided to pull out, it made sense [to move] because more and more students are studying at the Roeterseiland Campus and we want to be close to our customers.’ He contacteddifferentphysiotherapy practices, dentists and psychologists. ‘Students and employees will soon be able to visit us close to their work or study place. And because we provide so many different services, if, for example, someone needs a physiotherapist, they can seek that help directly. Isn’t that great?’
