Sixty British universities will close for eight days following a strike starting 25 November as scientists demand more permanent contracts and higher wages.

Data from the largest trade union for scientific staff show that more than half of British scientists have a temporary contract. Moreover, the average wage has fallen by 17 per cent in ten years, according to The Guardian. More than one million students are expected to be effected by the strike, which will see the closure of renowned universities such as Oxford, Cambridge and University College London.
