New help desk offers relief to UvA employees suffering under workload

The first result of the plan to reduce the workload for employees at the UvA is a dedicated help desk.

Since this week, any UvA employee suffering from work-related stress or pressure can seek guidance from a dedicated counsellor. The help desk is a result of recommendations made by a task force led by dean of Economics, Han van Dissel last year. Director of operations at the Faculty of Economics & Business, Wilma de Munck, was appointed to oversee the project. ‘We hope to make a maximum contribution to reduce the workload and the experience of work stress’, she says.

‘The task force looked at things we could achieve in the short term. One thing we noticed was that the resources and training courses already made available by the UvA for people suffering from stress were not sufficiently known of. The help desk initiative should help with this.’

The help desk is not intended for any little problem however, says De Munck. Anyone who is experiencing work related pressure should first try to determine what the problem is and try to solve the issue themselves. ‘But when employees have tried everything and still feel stuck, then the door is always open.’
