UvA to build new lecture hall on Roeterseiland

At the start of the academic year 2019/2020, a new lecture hall will be built on the Roeterseilandcampus following the advice of the three faculties already based there.

The new building will primarily be used for lectures, but will be suitable for events such as such as graduation ceremonies and meetings. The building will be situated between Crea and the Roeterseiland-J/K.

Although fairly new, the Roeterseilandcampus is already showing signs of being too small.

The Faculty of Economics and parts of the Faculty of Science were the first to settle, and when students left for Science Park, a masterplan was created to turn the Roeterseiland into a full-fledged campus. Later, the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences (FMG) moved to the campus, and, last year, the Faculty of Law. In the meantime, the inflow of students has become so big that campus resources are strained, especially since the university board has also relocated to the campus.

In August, a temporary ‘tent’ was built on the Roeterseilandcampus  for lectures. The university also rented the Carré theatre for lectures.
