The UvA’s microbiologists have returned to Science Park after a year and a half working at the VU.

After three return trips with two trucks between the VU and the Science Park, repatriation of the sixteen UvA microbiologists and their inventory is now complete. ‘We’ve been gone a year and a half so we’re new to many people here at Science Park,’ says microbiologist Tanneke van Blaauwen.

Repatriation

The microbiologists had moved to the VU’s O|2-building as part of a collaboration between the universities’ science departments that has since been called off by the institutions’ boards of directors. This is in part due to the negative advice handed down by the UvA’s student council on the further integration of the sciences.

The microbiologists feel let down. ‘I don’t understand the decision of the student council,’ says De Blaauwen. ‘Concentrating research in one location is a great way to boost quality of education and research.’
