ICT student Marco Kloek (26) will be the first HvA student to act as an ‘assessor’ on the behalf of HvA students by advising the HvA’s Board of the University from a student’s perspective. ‘I can bring up subjects that may not otherwise have been given priority but that are important for students.’

‘A University of Applied Sciences is about and for students,’ Kloek says in a press release. Therefore, ‘all subjects discussed by the Board of the University will also be looked at from a student’s perspective’. Kloek already has some subjects he wants to discuss come September, like scheduling problems and the fact students have to wait so long to receive their exam grades.

Kloek has been at the HvA since 2012 where he’s also been a part of the Central Student Counsel for a long time. There his focus has been on subjects like finances and regulation. It was the Central Student Counsel that advocated the new function of a student assessor. Counsel Chairman Pieter Claeys: ‘Student participation is important at all levels of the HvA. Also at board level.’ The HvA is the first University of Applied Sciences in The Netherlands to have a student function like this in its board.
