The Amsterdam School of International Business (Amsib) received an international accreditation from the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD). This will increase the value of students’ diplomas and provide access to more interesting international internships, says the dean of the business school.

What does the accreditation mean for Amsib students? ‘In a year or two, students will be able to choose from a wider range of interesting internships or summer schools in foreign countries,’ says dean John Sterk. ‘And graduates will have better job opportunities on the international labour market.’

‘Our programmes are based on the concept of an international classroom.’

The Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS) is the first institution for applied sciences in the Netherlands to receive the EFMD Programme for Accreditation System (EPAS) quality mark. It was granted to two bachelor programmes: International Business & Management Studies, and International Business & Languages. The accreditation acknowledges the quality of business and management programmes worldwide.

Amsib offers programmes for internationally recognised bachelor degrees in business administration (bba). About twenty per cent of students come from abroad. Sterk predicts that his programmes will see a growing number of international students in the years to come thanks to the EFMD accreditation, which will allow the school to engage in more collaborations with foreign universities with a bolstered international reputation.

‘Our programmes are based on the concept of an international classroom,’ says Sterk. ‘By having more nationalities and cultures in the room, students will learn to approach business-related issues from multiple cultural perspectives.’ This, he believes, will positively impact the job opportunities of students.
