A new ‘escape room’ will be open to visitors of the UvA’s archeological museum from September.

An ‘escape room’ is a game in which contestants must find their way out of a confined space by collecting clues and solving puzzles. Marleen Smit, head of PR at the Allard Pierson Museum, says she cannot give away too much but does let on that, ‘everything is inspired by archeology, riddles included.’ She adds that the museum has incorporated some of its own artefacts in the game.

The room was designed by Novitas Heritage and tailored to fit a handful of museums including the Rijksmuseum van Oudheden in Leiden. Construction will start during the first week of September and is scheduled to open on 8 September, remaining open to visitors until 1 October. Entry for groups ranging from 2 to 8 people will cost 99 euros.
