UvA and HvA split up

As of Wednesday March 1, the UvA and HvA will have separate executive boards. The move, approved last Monday, follows almost fifteen years of close collaboration.

The UvA and HvA announced the divorce of the executive boards in an official press statement given last Monday. The so called ‘shared service centres’, however, including the accounting department, facility services, ICT services and the libraries, will continue to work together.

The announcement follows the approval of both organisations’ supervisory boards and participation councils, despite the initial reluctance of the UvA’s Central Student Council (CSR) and the Central Workers Council (COR) to agree to the mooted package deal. Both councils have since submitted a proposal detailing how the shared service centres might be evaluated, monitored and eventually improved. ‘Representatives of all faculties will be involved in this process,’ Ten Dam said. For the time being, but most likely also permanently, the Student Services of the UvA and the Student Affairs of the HvA will continue as separate service centres.

Two executive boards

As of today, the Executive Board of the UvA consists of president Geert ten Dam, rector magnificus Karen Maex and interim vice president of finance and housing, Kees van Ast, although the board is looking to replace him.

Also as of today, Huib de Jong has been reappointed as rector of the HvA in addition to his role as acting president of the HvA. Nico Moolenaar is acting as interim member of the HvA board while the HvA looks for a replacement. The final HvA board will consist of three members.
