The number of registered students at Dutch universities in the academic year 2016/17 has increased by 2.6 per cent compared to last year, to 264.838. Dutch universities have more registered students than ever before.
This is partly due to an increase in the number of Dutch students enrolled at university (by 7.8 per cent, the first increase in three years), but mainly to the swell in international students at 17.8 per cent. About 15 per cent of all registered university students are international.

The UvA has yet published any figures on enrolment over the year 2016 so these are, for now, only preliminary findings. Those findings show more students pre-enrolled and that this increase was largely due to students from abroad.
