AUC students protest changes made to rental contracts by Duwo

Due to a housing shortage at AUC, students currently residing at the AUC campus have been told to leave early.

Swedish AUC student Erika Persson (27) started a petition to demand Duwo uphold the students’ contracts, but says they are being completely ignored. She says that the ‘madness’ began mid November when she and fellow students received an e-mail requesting them ‘to leave before the end of December’ despite having signed a contracts seen by Folia stating they can keep their rooms until the first day of the month following the last day of the semester.

‘February 3rd is the last day of the semester, so that means we get to stay until March 1st,’ explains Persson. ‘But apparently Duwo doesn’t care about what our contracts say.’ At the beginning of this month, the students received an automatically generated e-mail informing them that the new rental period will terminate at the end of January, in the middle of finals week. ‘One of my AUC friends is already working and studying. He can’t also move, especially on such short notice.’

After continued pleas, Duwo has advised students to move a week earlier so as not to have to do so during finals week. With the help of AUC, the date has now been pushed back another four days, to the 4th of February. ‘Without an apology, without an explanation. They screwed up big time.’

Duwo’s reaction

Duwo claims they’re actually helping students by delaying the date. Persson's contract is supposedly out of date even though Persson tells Folia it’s the only one she's signed. This morning (31 January) Duwo told Folia that they are trying to fix the situation by assessing each claim on a case by case basis. After a meeting with AUC, they admit to having made communication mistakes and are trying to prevent the same thing from happening next year.
